The parish of hanover, the third smallest in Jamaica is situated at the north-western end of the island and has an area of 450.0 sq km (173.9 sq miles). Lucea, the capital, was a busier town than Montego bay in colonial days. Important towns includes Bloody Bay, Negril, Green Island, Sandy Bay, and Hopewell. Yams, sugar cane, pimento, turmeric, and breadfruit are major agricultural produce while cattle, pigsma and goats are reared. The highest elevation is Birchs Hill 1809 feet high, the Dolphin Head highest point is 1789 feet. National Hero, The Right Excellent Sir Alexander Bustamante was born at Blenheim in the parish.
